Ghost forest in Sleeping Bear Dunes

The ghost forest is a remnant of a forest poking up out of the sand of the Sleeping Bear Dunes. There are dozen or so severely weathered trunks standing at various angles. Nestled in a large bowl of sand, the ancient tree trunks are an interesting sight to behold.

Fishtown in Leland, Michigan

Two fish tugs, the Joy and the Janice Sue, are based in Fishtown, which is a tiny historic district in Leland, Michigan. It consists of docks lining both sides of the river and the old clapboard shacks that used to be mainly fishing related business. These days, many of the little shops are gift shops, but one still functions as headquarters for a commercial fishing operation.

The corner of red and gray


At the corner of Red and Gray, on the grounds of the old state hospital, now called the Grand Traverse Commons.
